Description:
Dorsal spines: 13; Dorsal rays: 17-18; Anal spines: 3; Anal rays: 7.
Oblong body with long caudal peduncle. Caudal fin slightly emarginate. Ctenoid scales giving rough texture. Fleshy lips that swell greatly with age.
Colour. Adults grey to grey-brown lightening ventrally. Lower lip and chin whitish Spinous dorsal fin dusky to black. Anterior half of soft dorsal fin black. Pectoral,
pelvic, and anal fins blackish. Lower lobe and upper tip of caudal fin black. Anterior half of soft dorsal fin black.

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 100cm SL.
Habitat and Ecology:
Coastal inshore waters near reefs, sheltering in the deeper part of surge channels during the day (depth 2-50m). Juveniles in brackish habitats or shallow turbid coastal
areas. Adults usually solitary, occasionally in pairs. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding.
Fishery Status:
This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the fish trap fishery, but is an uncommon to rare component of the catch.
