Information

Description:

Dorsal spines: 12-13; Dorsal rays: 21-23; Anal spines: 3; Anal rays: 18-20.

Medium-sized Butterflyfish. Snout short and blunt. Predorsal profile nearly straight. Caudal fin truncate to slightly rounded.
Body bright yellow with large black spot on back. Narrow black bar through the eye. Black submarginal band through posterior dorsal and anal fins and caudal peduncle.  
Caudal fin translucent. 


Size:

Maturity: Unknown. Max length : 20.0 cm TL. 
 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits lagoon and seaward reefs with with abyndant soft or hardcorals (depth 2-45 m). Occurs alone or in small groups. Feeds on hard and soft coral fragments, sponges, 
polychaetes, and filamentous algae. Oviparous. Form pairs during breeding.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It may on occasion be caught in trap or net fisheries but would typically be released.
