Size:
Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 150cm TL. Common length 90cm.
Habitat and Ecology:
A pelagic species found over lagoon and seaward reefs (depth 0-20, usually 0-13m). Tends to inhabit more coastal waters than Tylosurus acus melanotus, but also found in
offshore waters. Solitary or in small groups. Feeds mainly on small fishes.
Fishery Status:
This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the hand line fishery and by trolling, but is an uncommon component of the catch.
Notes:
Leap from the water when threatened or attracted to lights at night. As a result, they are often feared by fishers because of the puncture wounds caused by their long sharp jaws.
