Description:

Dorsal spines: 12; Dorsal rays: 18-20; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays: 19-21.

Bushy cirri present on nape, eye and nostril. Radial pattern on eye. Dorsal fin notched. Both sexes with numerous pale spots, dark streaks anteriorly, and indications of 
several dusky bands. Exhibits a low degree of sexual dimorphism. Males’ elongated anal spines are longer than those of females.

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 14cm TL.
 

Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabit reef flats as well as shallow lagoon and seaward reefs (depth 0-8m). Usually found in areas of mixed coral, sand, and rubble. Feed by scraping off algae. Oviparous, 
distinct pairing. Eggs are demersal and adhesive. Larvae are planktonic, often found in shallow, coastal waters.

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is not subject to fisheries.
