Description:

Dorsal spines: 11; Dorsal rays: 16-17; Anal spines: 3; Anal rays: 7.

A small slender basslet with pronounced forked tail with extended upper and lower caudal fin (lower markedly longer than upper).  
Small juveniles have 12 dorsal spines, the first of which is small and disappears with growth.

Colour. Reddish orange body dorsally and on flanks transitioning to pink ventrally. Distinct oblique yellowband from upper tip of moouth down through 
lower part of eye through operculem to base of pectoral fins. Posterior base of dorsal fin yellow, outer edge electric blue. Pectoral and anal fins yellow. 
Inner edge of caudal fin fork yellow.  
 


Size:

Maturity: Unknown. Max length : 13.0 cm TL. 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits clear water reef crests and outer reef slopes (depth 4-30 m, usually 10-30 m). Often occurs in groups. Diurnal planktivore. 


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is not subject to the artisanal fishery.
