Description:

Dorsal spines: 4; Dorsal rays: 28-30; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays: 27-29.

Body oval and elongate. Grey, paler ventrally, with narrow dark bluish-grey bars on body and irregular spots on head. Oblique groove on snout below nostrils reaching 
half way from eye to mouth. A broad diffuse yellow stripe on side of body. Single dusky peduncular plate with semi-circular keel. Caudal fin emarginated and bluish grey. 
 


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 40cm FL


Habitat and Ecology:

Reef associated occurring in lagoons to outer seaward reefs (depth 2-40m, typically more than 10m). Occurs singly or in schools. Feeds on zooplankton and algae. 
Sleeps on reefs at night, taking on a disruptive mottled pattern. 


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is a rare component of the catch.
