Description:
Dorsal spines: 12; Dorsal rays : 16-17; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays: 18-19.
Small blenny. Body elongate. 2 or 3 canine teeth posteriorly on each side of lower jaw. Cirri above eye (if present), on nostril and on nape
unbranched. Dorsal fin deeply notched between spinous and soft portions. Caudal fin slightly rounded.
Colour: Pale translucent body with a series of both brown and white spots. Pink to green barring on the head.
Size:
Unknown. Max length: 5.0 cm TL.
Habitat and Ecology:
Inhabits rubble areas and dead algal reefs, and coral areas of outer lagoon reefs (depth 0-14 m). Found in pairs or small groups. Forms pairs during
courtship and spawning. Often difficult to approach, disappears into burrow within coral or rock when disturbed.
Fishery Status:
This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is not subject to the artisanal fishery.
Notes:
Although the species has a broad range from East Africa to the Pacific, within Seychelles is has to date only been recorded from the granitic islands.
