Description:
Dorsal spines: 0; Dorsal rays: 113-121; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 92-98; Vertebrae: 55-58.
Body flat and elongate, with dorsal and anal fins joined to caudal fin. Eyes protruding and on left side of body. Interorbital space narrow and scaly. Snout rounded. Corner
of mouth extending below posterior border of lower eye, nearer to tip of snout than to gill opening. Two lateral lines on both sides. Scales ctenoid on upper side, cycloid
on lateral line and underside. 16 to 18 scale rows between the two lateral lines on eyed side.
Colour. Upper side uniformly tan lower side whitish.
Size:
Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 46cm TL, commonly to 30cm TL.
Habitat and Ecology:
Inhabits soft or rublle substrates of lagoons and along continental shelves (depth 1-10 m). Feeds on small invertebrates.
Fishery Status:
This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the beach seine fishery, but is an uncommon component of the catch.
Notes:
Differs from Cynoglossus dispar in having larger scales on upperside: 16-18 rows of scales between lateral lines in C. lachneri and 18-20 in C. dispar.
