Description:
Dorsal spines: 13; Dorsal rays: 12-14; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays: 13-14.
Body ovate, compressed. 2 rows of teeth on jaws. Caudal fin emarginate to bilobed.
Colour. Drab olive grey or greenish grey, with a white vertical bar on middle of trunk. Dark spots at the posterior base of the dorsal fin.
Size:
Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 12.5cm TL.
Habitat and Ecology:
Occurs typically on inner reefs flats, shallow lagoons and channels over rubble and rocky outcrops (Depth 0-5m). Feeds primarily on filamentous algae. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are deposited inside empty shells or under stones or shells. Males guard and aerate the eggs.
Fishery Status:
This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It may be occasionally caught in nets but would typically be released as too small.
