Description:

Dorsal spines: 9; Dorsal rays: 28-31; Anal spines: 3; Anal rays: 24 - 26.

Breast naked ventrally to origin of pelvic fin; laterally, naked area of breast separated from naked base of pectoral fin by a moderate band of scales.

A pale brassy to bluish-green trevally lightening silvery on the sides and below. Several (or more up to 20) prominent oblong yellow spots, often with dusky centres, 
scattered on the flank mostly below the lateral line. Pale brownish to bright blue dorsal, anal and caudal fins.


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 75.0 cm TL. Commonly 40cm FL.


Habitat and Ecology:

Occurs around oceanic islands as opposed to continental shelfs (neritic areas). Adults are pelagic. Utilise lagoon and seaward reefs (depth 3-168 m). May be encountered 
solitary, in pairs or schools up to a few dozen individuals. Feeds on sand-dwelling crustaceans.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the hand line fishery, but is relatively uncommon.   
 


Notes:

C. orthogrammus is similar to C. ferdau, but adults differ in having several relatively large oblong yellow spots, including some below lateral line; no dark bands on sides.
