Description:

Dorsal spines: 7; Dorsal rays: 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays 8

Small cardinalfish. Tube of anterior nostril long. 3rd or 4th dorsal spine longest.

Colour. Grey translucent body with white lower head and belly. A broad dark stripe runs from snout through the eye, fading posterior 
to the operculum. Dark leading edge to the first dorsal fin and small caudal spot present. 
 


Size:

Maturity: Unknown. Max length: 8.5 cm TL.
 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits reef flats and sheltered lagoons, often in seagrass beds and near mangroves (depth 0-20 m). A nocturnal species, which forms small groups. 
Exhibits mouth brooding. Forms pairs during courtship and spawning.
 


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is not subject to the artisanal fishery.
