Information

Description:

Dorsal spines: 8; Dorsal rays: 9; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays 8.

Small cardinalfish with long broad caudal peduncle. Suborbital bones with spines. Large specimens have 1-3 small bony knobs on edge of opercle below 
spine. 

Colour. Whitish base colour, with single broad dark stripe tapering towards caudal fin. Distinct dark spot on the caudal peduncle, the lower edge level 
with the centre of the caudal fin. The caudal spot fades at night and in low light conditions.


Size:

Maturity: Unknown. Max length: 11.0 cm TL.
 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits reef flats and seaward reefs (depth 3-50 m). Solitary or in small groups. Cryptic, remaining under ledges during the day. Exhibits mouth brooding.
 


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is not subject to the artisanal fishery.
