Information

Description:

Dorsal spines: 12; Dorsal rays: 16-18; Anal spines: 2; Anal rays: 14-16.

Chest-nut brown bodied damsel fish. Distinctive black bar across rear of body extending somewhat onto dorsal fin. Caudal peduncle and fin yellowish-cream to white. 
Operculum often has a purplish tinge. Distal portion of dorsal and anal fins darker brown with purplish-blue tinge. Pectoral fins are yellowish. Pelvic fin outer 
edge often with purplish-blue tinge. 
 


Size:

Maturity: Unknown. Max length : 11.0 cm TL.


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabit coral reefs, lagoons and areas of high wave action (depth 1-15m). Commonly associated with Pocillopora or Acropora corals. Typically solitary and diurnal. Feed on 
filamentous algae, small benthic invertebrates, and occasionally small fishes. Oviparous, distinct pairing during breeding. Eggs are demersal and adhere to the substrate. 
Males guard and aerate the eggs.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is however generally too small to be caught by artisanal fishing techniques.
