Description:

Dorsal spines: 11; Dorsal rays: 12-14; Anal spines: 4; Anal soft rays: 8-10.

Ovoid, moderately laterally compressed body. Short blunt snout with terminal mouth. Maxilla extending posterior to centre of eye. 5 oblique rows of cheek scales. Caudal fin 
forked with somewhat rounded lobes. 

Colour. Body with brownish red and silvery white stripes. Spinous dorsal mostly white, membrane tips yellow, basal part of fin red except base of first two membranes which 
are whitish. Other fins pale yellowish. Pectoral base and axil dark brown. 4th anal spine and distal portion of 1st anal ray red. Upper and lower edges of caudal fin red.


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 27cm TL. 
 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits shallow waters of coral reefs and rocky shores (depth 2-6m). Often found between branching corals.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the fish trap and net fisheries, but is a relatively uncommon component of the catch.
