Information

Description:

Body elongate, probably the longest moray, but not heavy set like G. javanicus. Body cylindrical anteriorly but compressed along tail. No scales. Head not obviously distinct from trunk. Small eyes. Very large mouth extending posteriorly well beyond eye. Two rows of canines at sides of upper jaw and front of lower jaw, inner row of teeth larger. Dorsal fin originating on head before gill opening. Uniformly brown body, upper head, dorsal area and the posterior fin edges darker.


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 400cm TL.  


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits muddy ocean bottoms, inner bays and estuarine areas (depth 0-15m). Solitary. Feeds mostly on crustaceans and small fishes.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. The one specimen recorded to date was caught in a fish trap.
