Information

Description:

Dorsal spines: 11; Dorsal rays: 12-14; Anal spines: 4; Anal rays: 9-10.

Body moderately deep. Corner of preopercle with a sharp spine. Front of upper lip thickened and slightly protruding. Maxilla extending from below centre of the eye to a 
vertical at rear edge of pupil. 5 oblique scale rows on cheek. Slender caudal peduncle.

Colour. Body orange-red to orange-yellow with silvery white stripes following the scale rows. Black blotch at base of soft dorsal, anal, and caudal fins, but may be faint 
or absent in caudal and anal fins.
 


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 25cm TL.


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits rocky reefs and coral-rich areas and seaward slopes (depth 5-90m). Usually solitary but sometimes forms schools in deep water oceanic habitats.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the fish trap fishery, but is an uncommon component of the catch.


Notes:

Spine of preopercle venomous.
