Description:

Dorsal spines: 8; Dorsal rays: 25-27; Anal spines: 3; Anal rays: 23-25.

Orangish brown to dark brown with numerous pale blue to yellow dots on head, body and basal portion of dorsal fin. Outer part of eye and edges of orbit rich golden 
yellow colour. Median and pelvic fins dark brown, the dorsal with faint longitudinal banding. Caudal fin slightly emarginate to truncate. Juveniles bright yellow.

 


Size:

Maturity: Lm unknown. Range unknown. Max Length: 18.5cm. 
 


Habitat and Ecology:

Inhabits sheltered shallow water (depth 1-21m), coral-reef and rocky reefs. Occurs singly or in small groups. Feeds on fine detrital material.


Fishery Status:

This species is not protected or subject to fishery regulations. It is caught in the fish trap fishery, but is an uncommon component of the catch.
